Batai groaned as he stood up from the camp chair he'd been using to catch up on ships business. It definitely wasn't as easy on the body as the one in his office. Stretching, he walked around the small space, working out the kinks in his neck. Satisfied, he knew he had to get a few things out of the way before they got back to work. Tapping his combadge, he said "Dhej to Phaedra. Can you please meet me in the Command Tent for a few moments?"

Phaedra, who'd been working on updating some of the patient files she'd been working on in the Nest, heard the summons and replied "Acknowledged Captain. On my way." Slipping the padd into her carryall, she made her way to the command tent quickly, not wanting to be late.

Looking up as he heard her approach, Batai said "Thanks for coming Lieutenant. Take a seat anywhere. I'm sorry I don't have much in the way of furniture." After she sat, he added "How are things going with the Healers? I assume by this point they have began to trust you and you are forming a working relationship with them?"

Shifting on the crate she was using as a seat, Phaedra replied "Yes sir. As you know, the majority of the wounded were very suspicious of us, and didn't want our help. I just kept myself calm, focused on asking questions of the Healers, and offering help. After a time, they grudgingly accepted that I was there to help, and let me do so."

Nodding, Batai replied "I'll admit gaining their trust was certainly a challenge. I'm just thankful none of us were injured by their impressive talons or beaks." Smiling slightly, he added "I won't keep you for long Lieutenant, I know you're busy with your patients and paperwork. I wanted to talk to you about an opportunity within the Medical department, and see what you think about it."

Curious, she replied "Excuse me sir? What sort of opportunity?"

Glancing down at the padd in his hand, he replied "I have decided to make some changes in the department, in light of the performance of the crew during this mission. I have chosen to move Doctor Vanth to the position of Assistant Medical Officer, and offer you the position of Assistant Chief Medical Officer. Your performance during the mission has been impressive, and you've earned the promotion. I know you have a lot to learn, and are always eager to learn new skills. I hope you will accept the position and its responsibilities."

Shocked, she sat quietly for a moment trying to absorb everything Dhej had said. To admit it was sudden would be an understatement. Quietly, she replied "I appreciate your faith in me sir, and gratefully accept the promotion. I will admit I'm a bit dumbfounded, but very happy. To be honest sir, it is more than I could ever dream of as a chance to serve the ship." Pausing, she added "My family wasn't supportive of me joining Starfleet, being stuck in the old ways of how Ferengi females were supposed to act. I look forward to learning all I can, and will strive to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability."

Smiling, Batai stepped forward and offered his hand. Shaking hers, he said "That's all I ask Lieutenant. Congratulations. I'll let you get back to work, as I know both of us are not going to get any rest for a while. Dismissed."

Nodding, Phaedra left the command tent with a huge smile on her face, but knowing she would have a challenge to face, but she would overcome it with hard work and determination.

After she left, Batai smiled, thankful he had made the right choice, and entered the changes into the ships log. Knowing he would need something warm to keep him awake for the next couple of hours, he made his way to the small replicator to get some jasmine tea before he dealt with the mountain of ships status reports he had to wade through.
